Week 3: Getting The Roots Right
1. GETTING THE ROOTS RIGHT
In the Garden of Eden, there were many trees, and God said, “You may freely eat the fruit of every tree
in the garden, except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat its fruit, you are sure to die.” (Genesis 2:15-17) God does not want us to feed on junk—people’s ideologies or the world’s mentality. He wants us to feed on Him.
If we want to be a fruit-bearing tree, where people can take refuge, we must get the roots right. The Farmer is the only one that cares because He is the one that looks after that seed and the soil, and He is the one that feeds it. When it is just you and the Farmer—you and Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior—He becomes real to you, and His Word feeds you.
And he will be like a tree firmly planted [and fed] by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season; its leaf does not wither; and in whatever he does, he prospers [and comes to maturity]. Psalm 1:3 (AMP)
2. FEEDING YOUR ROOTS
-
Are your roots feeding on the Word of God, producing a tree that is growing and life-giving? Or are you taking in poisonous food and water (the world’s knowledge, thinking, entertainment)?
-
How can you spend more time with the Holy Spirit? By quietly waiting on God and meditating on His Word.
PRAY: Lord Jesus, You are the True Vine. I choose to abide in You and be nourished by Your Word and Your Living Waters. Amen
3. GOING DEEPER
When we meditate and wait on the Lord in quietness during our prayer time, the Holy Spirit will make the Word alive and reveal the scriptures to us. Only then are we feeding on the Word of God—Jesus (John 1:1).
God wants His Word to be alive in us, to carry us, to work things out for the nations and us. Instead of meditating and concentrating on the world’s problems, we have to choose to meditate and focus on God. It is in the waiting that we feed on Him, and He delivers us from the things that are binding us.
Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness. Colossians 2:7 (NLT)
4. #PRAY4THEWORLD
Set time aside and pray for the nations to be rooted in Christ.
Going Deeper
We are praying for the nations to be fruitful and that they will see God’s Spirit move like never before, but God looks at the roots. The roots will determine the fruits. #Pray4TheWorld is going beneath the surface where God develops the roots. When the nations are truly rooted in Christ, it will experience God’s power.
